Speech of the ambassador of China in Vanuatu:
Your Excellency Mr. Baldwin Lonsdale, President of Vanuatu,
Your Right Honorable Mr. Charlot Salwai, Prime Minister of Vanuatu,
Members of diplomatic corps,
Respected Mr. Zhang Daoxin, Head of the Chinese delegation,
Respected Mr. Luo Chiwei, Former Ambassador of Vanuatu to China,
Ladies and gentlemen,
I am very delighted to attend Vanuatu-Chinese Artists “Heart to Heart” Charity Auction Reception this evening. First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu, I would like to express my sincere thanks to you all for organizing and attending tonight’s reception. We are very grateful to the President and Prime Minister, who together join us tonight. My special thanks go to the Chinese delegation for their love and care to the disadvantaged group of people here in Vanuatu.
The key word of tonight is “charity”. Charity is an act of kindness where a person contributes a part of his own for the fulfillment of those who are less capable. In our society there are some people who are handicapped for some reasons and they need our help. This is why Vanuatu and Chinese artists held the Joint Creation Workshop at Port Vila Chinese Club yesterday and for what we gathered here tonight. The delegation have come a long way to show their love and support to the people with disabilities. I appreciate and applaud what they have done here in Vanuatu.
Ladies and gentlemen,
China and Vanuatu enjoy friendly and fruitful relations. We are good partners. We respect each other and support each other. In March 2015, Cyclone Pam hit Vanuatu and caused huge damage to this country. The Chinese Government acted quickly and provided a large quantity of emergency goods to the government and people of Vanuatu. A friend in need is a friend indeed. This demonstrates the deep friendship between our two countries. During those hard times, Chinese communities and Chinese state companies in Vanuatu also extended their helping hands.
Dear friends, some of you may have known that, over the past years, China has sent 26 groups of doctors to work in Port Vila and Santo hospitals. Besides, these beloved doctors often visited rural areas to provide medical services to the villagers. Later this year, they are going to do regular visits to outer islands, Pentecost, Malakula and Tanna to serve the local people. Here I would like to salute them for their humanitarian deeds.
Ladies and gentlemen, tonight is an occasion of giving and sharing. I wish the Charity Auction Reception a great success.
