Court dismissed Willie Toama as candidate on Tanna

Port Vila Supreme Court has dismissed yesterday the urgent constitutional application of Charge d’Affaire of Vanuatu in its Beijing embassy in China, Willie Toama.

Mr Toama submitted an urgent application during the weekend after his name was not declared as illegible candidate on the constituency of Tanna in Southern part of Vanuatu. The Electoral Commission made two declarations of the names of the candidates. Last declaration was  last Saturday night. The reason for the Electoral Commission not to declare the name of Mr Toama was because his name was not on the electoral list. His lawyer, Less Napuati said that Electoral Commission removed the name of his client from the electoral list without notifying him while he was in China.

Mr Toama has boarded plane this morning from Port Vila to Tanna to inform his supporters about the decision of the court. There are now 263 candidates to contest snap election next week on Friday. He was supposed to contest the election on the colors of Moderate Alliance. In 2002 general election, he contested on the colors of Green Party.
