Former prime minister, Joe Natuman said that the urgent constitutional application will not affect their candidature to contest the snap election on 22nd January. Mr Natuman said that people’s representation act is very clear. He said that under the act only the debts that are more than two months will have legal effect on a candidate. Mr Natuman made comments following allegations that 24 former members of parliament of the former opposition will not contest this month snap election because they have lost the case against the president of republic over the dissolution of parliament last month. Mr Natuman said that until today, their lawyer has not yet received any invoice from the lawyer of the president of republic of Vanuatu, Father Baldwin Lonsdale. He said that even though if they have billed by the head of a state, they will still go to court if the bill is excessive. Mr Natuman said all 24 former opposition MPs are cleaned and they are ready to go the field.
